How To Succeed In The Interview IM HIRED

How To Succeed In The Interview This article has been written in partnership with Interview-Me, helping students and job seekers excel in the interview. The Secret to any Great Interview is Preparation First of all big congrats, your CV did the trick and you got noticed by the employer! Now all you have to do is get through the interview process and youre one stage closer to getting offered the job. The interview is designed so the employer can find out more about you and see if your skills, strengths and experiences can translate into their business. Another huge part of the interview is fit and whether or not you will click with the other team members. There is so little time to impress, meaning you need to have done your preparation before the interview to ensure you can showcase why you are the right person for the job. So what do you need to do to prepare for an interview? Being prepared is essential for any interview and the preparation needs to begin as soon as you have the invite.  This checklist will help relieve those nerves and allow you to put your best foot forward. 1)   Write a List of Strengths First thing to do is sit down with a pen and paper (tablet and computer if youre more technical) and start compiling a list of your strengths, start with 10 but you can add to this. Then start reading this list to yourself, the repetition will help it sink in and if nothing else it will be a great ego boost before walking into the interview. If youre struggling with the list why not ask a colleague or a friend to give you their suggestions. They might pick up on things you didnt notice and it is always good in an interview to not only talk about what you think but add my colleagues would say I was... 2) Have Examples Handy Always have examples handy, ready to back up the skills you have discussed in the interview, it is important that these example are tailored to the job specification you have applied for. Home in on what your responsibilities were in a particular situation as well as how you worked with your colleagues. Try not to constantly say we did but disguise your part in the example by changing from I was responsible for to I worked with XX to achieve XX. (There may be no I in team but a recruiter isnt interviewing the whole team) When using the examples in your interview ensure that they complement the questions being asked, there is nothing worse than an applicant that is so rehearsed they just ignore the question. 3) Research the Company You should have read the job specification before applying but there is no harm in rereading this a few times over. You need to know the role inside and out and be ready to feed your knowledge of the company into your answers throughout the interview. Have at least one question prepared that relates to the companys goals or culture, this will show your passion for their organisation. *TOP TIP*  Arrive early to the interview and check out the literature in the companys reception, usually the company notice boards or promotion literature will hold some good information you can use in your interview. 4) Dress to Impress, Plan an Outfit Have your outfit picked and ready to go, no one needs any clothing dramas on the morning of your interview. Your outfit should be professional and if in doubt ask the employer what attire is appropriate for the interview they are conducting. You want your first impression to be good so a smart appearance is the best way to go for any interview. 5) Know Where you are Going You cant just rely on the Sat Nav all the time so instead plan the best route to get to the interview. There is no excuse for lateness at any interview so leave plenty of time to get there and try and arrive at least 10 -15 minutes in advance. Arriving early will reduce your nerves and give you a few minutes to relax before the interview begins. Although arriving early is a good thing, dont be too early as you cant just sit in reception for an hour. 6) Pack your Bag (just like the first day of school) Find and pack all the documents you require including your CV and portfolio of work if applicable. Make sure you have everything that was requested by the employer whether that be ID or proof of address. Dont let your first impression to the employer be that you cant follow simple instructions. Leaving everything you need by the door will mean you cant forget it. 7) Have a Practise Run Practise definitely does make perfect, so before any interview try having a rehearsal. Most interviews will have standard questions and there are certain factors you need to be considering throughout the interview. The ideal option is to get expert help and with Interview-Me  you can practise your interview over SKYPE, get the feedback you need to ace the interview and all from someone with 20+ years experience in human resources (so basically someone who knows what they are talking about.) Click the link to book your interview. Have you ticked off all the boxes above? In the interview you need to impress the recruiter and the best way to do that is to form a connection and make the interview almost conversational. It is natural to feel nervous but it is crucial these nerves dont take over in the interview and with proper preparation you will feel more relaxed and ready to take on the interview. You can always ask for help and companies such as Interview-Me can provide you with that expert help to get you interview ready.

Today Hosts Hoda Kotb amp; Savanna Guthrie Reveal Salaries

Today Hosts Hoda Kotb amp; Savanna Guthrie Reveal Salaries Hoda Kotb is taking Matt Lauer’s spot on the Today show, but she won’t be taking her predecessor’s multi-million dollar salary. NBC will give both Kotb and her co-anchor Savannah Guthrie significantly lower salaries than that of the recently fired Lauer, the veteran journalists revealed to People. “The answer is noâ€"that’s not happening,” Kotb told the celebrity magazine. “I’m not making Matt Lauer money. Not even close.” Guthrie said she wouldn’t be making as much as Lauer either. Lauer, who was fired from NBC in November for “inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace,” reportedly signed a $20 million contract in 2016. The female duo, meanwhile, will be making just $7 million a year each, anonymous NBC sources told Page Six. Kotb and Guthrie are the first female duo to host the Today show. It’s been a major year for other women in media as well. After Lauer’s departure, two out of the three highest-paid TV anchors are women: Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts and NBC’s Megyn Kelly.

Secret to 2012 Career Success Commitment - Work It Daily

Secret to 2012 Career Success Commitment - Work It Daily If you aren’t already subscribed to thought guru Seth Godin’s blog, I would highly recommend you do so. His short, to-the-point, and thought-provoking posts are momentary day-stoppers because they make you pause... and think. I cannot even imagine what is going on in his mind at any given moment with so many pearls of wisdom floating around in there! But one recent post hit home particularly hard the other day... it was about planning versus committing. On a personal note, I had been planning to write a book on career strategies for a whole year. In fact, I had “planned” to spend the entire month of December 2010 working on it, but instead kept adding client appointments... which proved great for business but meant zero book completion. That is, until I made the commitment to actually do it this past December 2011. And guess what? I absolutely made it happen. Notice that one word... commitment? It’s all about the follow through, not the intent. Sure, this process was scary. A whole month without income? I never thought I could do it... but when I committed to the process and saved up funds to make up for the financial hole, my commitment made the opportunity possible. Was I petrified clients might leave me because I was “unavailable?” You betcha. But many prospective customers were willing to wait until I started taking clients again the first week of January. And you know what? A byproduct of being unavailable created pent-up demand. If this week is any indication, this year is going to be a blistering barn-burner. But what I am getting at is Godin’s post about committing is an important mindset we can apply to our own careers and how we manage them: We plan a lot of things... we plan to update our resumes every few months so we are ready for new opportunities or can easily respond to unplanned job transitions... but most of us don’t. We also plan to take that class we’ve been needing to take... but don’t because we are “too busy” to find the time. We plan to attend that networking event we know we should go to... but we don’t because something else came up or we simply don’t feel like it. My question is to you: What kinds of opportunities are you missing out by only planning... and not committing? Chances are if you start committing, career success will find you versus you trying to seek it. Dawn Rasmussen, CMP, is the president of Portland, Oregon-based Pathfinder Writing and Career Services. Click on the following link for more resume-writing tips to help you avoid the top resume mistakes.Q1 Should I take a recruiters advice on my resume? Is it advisable to send a recruiter a copy of your resume and work with them to revise it for different positions? VanishaThe job of any recruiter is to fill a job vacancy, so if he or she offers you resume advice, its a good idea to take it. This is especially true for contingency recruiters, whose pay is contingent upon their candidate being hired. If a contingency recruiter thinks you might be right for the job, they will likely work harder to make sure you get it, which could include offering ways to tweak your resume in the ri ght direction. When it comes down to it, a recruiters goals are the same as yours landing the job. Any advice given is in both of your best interests.Q2 Will adding a P.S. at the end of my titelseite letter make it more effective?Ive heard that a P.S. at the end of a titelseite letter is more visible than the rest of the letter. What are your thoughts on including one? Have there been studies about this? DougAdding a P.S. to your cover letter is a risky move. Before you even consider making that move, think about the culture of the company you are applying to. Many may see it as informal and careless, but some may be fine with it. Dont add one unless you know for sure, though you dont want something working against you if you can avoid it.Generally speaking, we dont advise it. Anything that you might want to include in your cover letter as a P.S. should already be in the letter itself. If you do decide to add one, know that what you are saying with it has to be extremely importan t. Your cover letter will likely not be well-received otherwise. Youve made the risky move make sure its worth it.Q3 How can I craft a resume that includes all of my vast work experience but isnt too long?I have a lot of experience in a variety of positions. How do I write a resume that shows all of this without writing a novel? HelenaHaving an expansive work history is great Its likely that not all of it is relevant to your current job search, though. When crafting your resume, start by writing out all of your experience. Then, pick and choose whats applicable to the types of roles youre interested in. By doing this, youll have a resume that is not only the appropriate length but also optimized for your job search.Remember, too, that not all work history requires excruciating detail. What you did 20 years ago is not as important as what youve done in the past 10. The further back you go in your professional timeline, the less detail you need to include. Limit your work history to titles, company names, and dates, or even add a career note stating Previous Experience Includes and list the positions you held. You want to make it clear that you were mucksmuschenstill working during this time this isnt an employment gap but you do not need to be specific about experience that is irrelevant or far in the past.Q4 How do I address gaps in my employment on my resume? If I am returning to work after sustaining an injury, how do I address the employment gap? HelenaYou dont need to address this on a resume, especially if there is a solid work history from before the gap. Let your experience speak for itself. If the employment gap is addressed in an interview, you can explain your hiatus without going into too much detail. Keep the focus on the fact that youre back and ready to roll in the workforce.RelatedHow to Handle Gaps in Your Employment HistoryQ5 How different should my resume and LinkedIn profile be?Should my LinkedIn profile mirror my resume? VanishaIf you are currently searching for a job, its not a bad strategy for your resume and LinkedIn profile to mirror each other. After all, LinkedIn is a significant part of your job application materials it is sometimes even used in lieu of a resume when you come across listings that give you the option to Apply With LinkedIn. No matter what you use it for, however, your LinkedIn profile should always tell the same story as your resume. Things like job goals, dates of employment, job titles, and the names of your employers all need to be consistent.Otherwise, LinkedIn is a great opportunity to add a bit more color and personality. Take advantage of this by sharing articles, and adding links and referrals. Your summary can even be less formal. Doing so will help you build your personal brand online.Q6 Should I include hobbies on my resume? What do you think of including hobbies on a resume? PeterJust like adding a P.S. to a cover letter, you should first consider your audience. This includes b oth the company overall and the individual people reading your resumebecause you dont want to include something that may negatively sway opinions of you. If you do choose to add hobbies to your resume, avoid touchy subjects like religion and politics unless they are totally relevant if you are applying for a religious organization, for example. If your hobbies can demonstrate a qualification for the job, you might more seriously consider adding them to your resume, especially if you are making a career change and they can speak to some of your experience in the new field. Otherwise, leave them off to be safe. If you dont need them, theres no reason to have them.Q7 If the focus of resumes should be on accomplishments, can I still include my positions duties?I know you should include accomplishments on a resume, but to fill out the rest, should you also include duties? DougOf course. Its pretty unrealistic that you could fill an entire resume only with things you have achieved. When it comes to describing your positions duties, its about how you phrase it. Instead of responsible for XYZ, think created and maintained XYZ. Characterize your job by detailing what youve done, not what your job description says. This is where action verbs come into play. Not only will they help you avoid redundant wording, but they will also strengthen your resume by tying your duties to your results.Avoid making the top resume mistakes.
